FREE Guide: 3 Self-Care Tools to Make You Truly Shine:

What’s on my bookshelf…

Before I get started with this week’s post, I want to let you know that I’ve decided to take the next three weeks off from blogging and podcasting.  This is the first time in 3 years that I won’t be posting any material on my blog (with the only exception being my end of the year “best of” that I do around Christmas and New Years).

To be completely honest, I’ve been working myself to the bone and life has been asking a lot from me recently.  I’m also smack dab in the middle of my Saturn Return so I’ve been feeling pulled to stop doing and, instead, look inward, reflect and reevaluate where I am in life.  (*Note: If you don’t know what Saturn Return is, I will likely be write about it when I’m more in the “I realized how I grew” stage.  So don’t worry I’ll explain it more later).

To take care of myself (and practice what I preach!) I need to acknowledge and accept my feeling and give myself the space to really stop, reflect and process.

So on August 15th I will be back refreshed and with some brand new material for you.

Because I don’t want to leave you hanging during the weeks I’ll be gone, I have three books that I want to recommend to you that I think will be very beneficial.  These books I’ve either read (or am reading) this summer and I’ve absolutely loved them — and I’m sure you will too!

Book #1 – Tears of Triumph by Marianne Williamson

Marianne Williamson is one of my all-time favorite authors and the author of the phenomenal bestselling book A Return to Love.  Marianne is a student of A Course in Miracles and, likely, the most well-known teacher of the Course.

In this book she takes on the idea that suffering, grief, depression, and sadness are a natural part of our own spiritual growth and evolution as human beings.  This is contrary to how our modern society’s perception of sadness and suffering — which is that it is all “pathological” and “unnatural”.  As Marianne says at one point in the book that we used to expect people to process the loss of a loved one for at least 2 years and now anything over 6 months is somehow “bad”.

As a result of this perception of sadness and suffering, our tendency has been to over prescribe psychological medications like antidepressants.

This book I have finished a while ago and it is an incredible book to help guide us to treat our own sadness and suffering differently and those of others.

Book #2 – Discover Your Authentic Self by Sherrie Dillard

To be completely honest, there have been so many personal-growth, self-help, and psychology books that I’ve read that I’ve gotten to the point now where my expectations are pretty low.  If I go to pick up a book in the personal growth genre I often expect it to be pretty generic, mediocre, and not much different from others in the past I’ve read.

This is what I was expecting when I got this book from my mentor, Sherrie Dillard.  I’ve read all of her past books and other books on similar topics.  What makes would make this book any different?

What I’ve learned through my own writing and through reading a lot of other people’s material is that the blog posts, books, and materials that stick aren’t necessarily the ones with new material per-say, but the ones that really put their own unique angle.  It’s more about sharing the material in one’s own unique way so that either another audience can understand it or to include other factors that other writers haven’t taken into consideration.

With this book, Sherrie does exactly that — she discussions the topic of authenticity in a way that I have not (or very rarely) heard from anyone.  And, because of it, I feel she’s really hitting the nail on the head on what it is like to truly live your life from an authentic place.

Book #3 – Wild by Cheryl Strayed

I initially watched the movie before reading the book this summer and I found the old advice from my Jr High English teacher to be true — the book is always better!

If you’re looking for a novel — or a memoir that reads like a novel — that’s all about a young woman’s journey of healing from the grief and loss of her mother while hiking Pacific Crest Trail, then you’ll want to read this.

The book is incredibly deep, emotional, and raw.  Cheryl isn’t afraid to write about the deep darkness of one’s own human emotions when in the process of healing.  She doesn’t try to cover up or hide any of her struggle and suffering with fluffy words.  She tells the complete and total truth of her process unapologetically.

That being said: Reader beware!  I found myself on the verge of tears (or actually crying) many times reading this book.  This book goes incredibly deep and, for that reason, its not for anyone who doesn’t like going into the deep darkness human emotions.

What are you reading this summer?  Or what do you plan on reading this summer?  Let me know in the comments! 🙂

Season 1 | Episode 005: Specialness & Genuine Happiness

In this episode, I go deeper into the concept of special relationships by applying it not only in our relationships with people but with many things in the world.

Here’s a few takeaways:

  • We can apply the concept of special relationships to any kind of relationship that we have with the world.
  • True fulfillment doesn’t necessarily come from personal material gain.  Rather, it comes through being truly of service.
  • Genuine happiness comes through being present, being of service and an intention to infuse love into all that you do.
  • It’s never been about just you — it never has been and never will be — it’s about all of us.
  • We are all in this together.  When one of us is suffering, we are all suffering.

Homework for this week: Try to catch your ego going into the thoughts like “this sucks”, “why is this so hard for me”, or “X has it better than me”.  Recognize the ego, then choose to see things differently.  Try to get yourself out of the ego thoughts and then, instead, ask yourself: How can I serve?  How can I help someone today?  How can I help make someone’s day a little easier?  Then do it!

Have a blessed week!

Much love,

Mastering the Art of Doing Nothing

For the last few weeks or months, I’ve been in a state of writer’s block.

If you’ve been following me regularly for a while now, then you may have sensed this on some level already because it’s pretty unordinary for me to not be coming out with a new blog every week.

Yes, I’ve had the podcast but, admittedly, it’s become a way to help cover up the writer’s block so I could still be bringing you weekly content.

So what’s the cause to the writer’s block, you ask?

It’s no one thing in particular, but many things.

I’ve been…

… reflecting on where I’m at and where I want to be.

… letting go of ways of being in the world that are no longer serving me nor anyone.

… releasing old beliefs and ways of perceiving the world and my place in it.

… processing old feelings of loss and grief that still hadn’t been fully processed.

Upon reflection, I can see how I had been focusing so much on doing that I was hardly allowing myself to simply be — and it caught up with me.

A few days ago it hit pretty hard when I found myself extremely stressed thinking about my future — where I want to go, what I want to do and how.

Being a student of A Course in Miracles, I knew intellectually that by simply trusting and allowing things to flow I will be guided exactly to where I’m meant to.  But telling myself to trust and shove those feelings of worry away simply didn’t work — and it never does.  Instead, it made me more agitated.

So I gave myself time to feel it. I literally spent the entire day stewing in my own feelings of worry, sadness, frustration, and so on.

… and, apparently, that’s all I needed to do, because the next day I found myself calmer and more peaceful.  Not relieved because I had found any answers, but simply feeling okay with where things are right now.

It was a matter of really feeling those feelings so that I could get to a place of being okay with just being, rather than to feel guilty for not doing work to move forward.

Yesterday I went to a local farmer’s market and then a grocery store.  In my process of shopping I felt drawn to get myself some prosciutto, marinated mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil.  A friend of mine had shared this amazing combination of foods with me a few weeks ago when she came back from her trip in Italy.

As I placed them all on my plate and drizzled them with balsamic vinegar for my afternoon snack, the words “Dolce far Niente” came to my mind.

If you’ve ever seen the movie or read the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert then you’ve heard this saying before.  In Italian it means: the sweetness of doing nothing.

The Italians in Eat, Pray, Love explained to Liz that Americans need to be told to take a break and relax, but Italians don’t need to be told.  If someone were to tell them to take a break, they would say, “Yes I know I deserve a break.  I know that I need to take some time to simply just be and enjoy life for what it is.”

Because, really, what is it that we’re really after?  A great job?  An amazing relationship?  A great income?

On the surface it may appear that way, but if we never allow ourselves to simply be and enjoy life’s little moments, then we’re forever going to be unsatisfied.  We’re always going to be in the race of chasing unattained wishes and dreams.  And, as a result, we’re never actually going to be able to enjoy anything — we would’ve lived a life of stress, rather than joy.

Click to Tweet: If we never allow ourselves to simply be and enjoy life’s little moments, then we’re forever going to be unsatisfied. @jenilyn8705

It’s okay to do nothing.

It’s okay to reflect.

It’s okay to enjoy life even if everything isn’t “perfect”.

It’s okay to celebrate even if there is no big event to celebrate.

And it most certainly is okay to spend an entire day feeling anxious, depressed, sad, angry, or whatever.

So wherever you are in your life — whether you’re sad, frustrated, worried, or stressed.  Even if you’ve recently gone through a breakup.  Even if you’re not sure how you’re going to pay next month’s rent.  Even if you think you’re job sucks.  Even if you’re stuck in writer’s block.  It’s time to stop, slow down, and simply enjoy life.

‘Cause life’s not meant to be lived stressed and chasing unattained dreams — it’s meant to be enjoyed… one present moment at a time.

Season 1 | Episode 004: The Holy Instant, The Picture & the Frame, and Forgiveness

MiraculousLife_1400x1400_v2This week I’m shifting gears a little bit.  Rather than read a passage from the Course and reflect on it, I’m answering a few questions I’ve received on how to study the Course and I’m also elaborating on the concepts of the Holy Instant, the Picture and the Frame, and forgiveness.

Here’s a few takeaways from this week’s podcast:

  • When studying the Course, don’t try to force it and “figure it all out”.  When we relax and are still, that’s when the material starts to really make sense.
  • If you’re studying the Course, be sure to do the workbook!
  • The Holy Instant is the moment when it’s like the “clouds part” of our ego and we’re fully in the present moment.
  • To see the picture, we have to see things with fresh eyes.  When we see the picture, we see things as they are in the present moment.  When we see the frame, we’re seeing the labels and past associations that we have with that person, place, or thing.
  • Forgiveness happens when we are able to see another person’s picture — their truth, their light, their love — rather than their frame — their ego, their darkness, their wounds.

Click to Tweet: Forgiveness happens when we see the other person’s light rather than their wounds. @jenilyn8705

The homework for this week is to do the forgiveness visualization that I talk about near the end of the episode. 🙂

I hope you enjoy this week’s episode!

Much love to you,

Season 1 | Episode 003: Special Relationships

Welcome to Episode 003 of the Your Miraculous Life Podcast!

In this third episode, I share a passage from Chapter 17 from the Course entitled, The Two Pictures.

Here are some of the main take-a-ways from this passage:

  • Every special relationship occupies our mind so much that we cannot hear the call for truth.
  • The special relationship has the most imposing and deceptive frame of all the defenses the ego uses.
  • Remember to look at the picture.  Do not let the frame distract you.  The frame is our projection on to the other person or thing — its the ego’s distortion.  The picture is the reality or truth.
  • Our relationship with the Divine is a reflection of our relationship to one another.

Click to Tweet: The love and happiness you desire cannot be found externally, but thru your inner connection to the Divine @jenilyn8705

So I want you to sit back and ask yourself: How do special relationships play out in your life?  How is it that your ego makes other people “special”?  How have you seen this play out in the past or currently in romantic relationships?  Or in friendships?  Or other relationships?

Then, I also want you to commit to a daily practice for yourself to improve your relationship with Source, the Divine, God, or whatever you want to call it.  This can be through daily meditation, prayer, yoga, or whatever.

In the comments below, share how special relationships play out in your life and the daily practice that you are committing yourself to (whether you already have been or you want to start).

Much love,

P.S.  I know there’s a lot of information that I covered in this particular episode.  So if you have any questions about anything I discussed in this episode that you’d like me to clarify or elaborate more, then please comment below and let me know.  I’ll be happy to answer. 🙂

This Will Transform Your Life

In February 2015 I went to a lecture in San Francisco about relationships that was being delivered by my mentor Gabby Bernstein.

This was the second in-person lecture that I attended of Gabby’s at the time.  The first was in April 2014 at the launch for her book Miracles Now.  I had heard about her about 6 months before that when my coach at the time recommended I check out her website in order to get online support from a community of like-minded women.

Because of my connections to her work, I heard of her new Spirit Junkie Masterclass in 2014 through conversing with others on

“Are you going?” someone asked me one day via the chat, “I literally just signed up the other day… I’m so incredibly excited!  It’s gonna be life-changing!”

To which I replied, “Unfortunately, I have too many things on my plate right now… so not this year”.  But, to be honest, I really had no intention of ever going.  I had already been investing my time and money on many other personal and business development courses.  I just didn’t see how this one was going to be any different.

So upon attending Gabby’s relationship workshop in SF in February 2015, I was going in with one simple intention: To see her speak live, get inspired and get some good tools to put in my pocket to take home with me and use in my daily practices.

We all came into the hall, took our seats, and Gabby was introduced.  She started it all with a meditation, of course, followed by the main lecture and then ended with a Q&A.

At some point in the Q&A a woman came up to the microphone with a question.  This person was working in as a therapist and wanted to apply the spiritual principles that she had been learning with her clients, but felt limited because “as a therapist, I can’t interject in that way like a coach can”.  I immediately empathized with her, given that I was doing substance abuse counseling at the time and had a similar frustration.

Gabby answered the woman’s question and near the end of her response she briefly mentioned her Sprit Junkie Masterclass training and suggested that it may be beneficial to her.

As I was listening to this something in me perked up.  I felt like something was pulling on my heart and suddenly wanted to do some research and learn more about this training that I previously had no interest in whatsoever.

The rest is pretty much history.  I had no idea if I’d have the time and money to go, but everything miraculously fell together so I was able to attend the masterclass live in NYC.

… and it was worth every single penny.

The lessons learned and the transformation that happened upon attending Gabby’s masterclass is still very much so with me every single day.

Through the masterclass I’ve been able to:

  • Find my true voice
  • Share my message in the way that I feels truly in alignment with what I’m meant to do
  • Really step up in my own spiritual practice
  • Have greater confidence in what I’m here to do to serve the world

There was only one thing about the masterclass that I didn’t like: The fact that I couldn’t access the material again so I can go over it whenever I feel the need to.

But, Gabby has changed that!  She now offers a digital version of the Spirit Junkie Masterclass so you can access the material anytime, anywhere.  I have personally gone through the entire digital material at least 3 times and I can attest that it’s equally as transformative as it was when I attended live.

In this next video, Gabby invites you to join her Spirit Junkie Masterclass Digital training. During this 8-module online course, you’ll gain the confidence and business-building tools you need to live your highest purpose, make an impact and earn for your great work.

How to Get Comfortable with Self-Promotion

One of the things that I know I’ve really had to work on in my journey of blogging, coaching, podcasting and so on is self-promotion.

For many of us, the idea of self-promotion can feel really “-ucky”, ingenuine, and just not very “real”.

However, the irony is that, if we don’t self-promote at all, then we can’t serve anyone!  Nobody is going to get our message and we’re certainly not going to be able to serve others and the world in the way that we are meant to.

My mentor Gabrielle Bernstein has managed to bust through these fears of self-promotion herself.  As a result, she has managed to promote herself so she was able to sit next to Oprah on Super Soul Sunday, be featured in the New York Times Sunday Style section, be featured on The Today Show and Dr Oz, and many more.

Being able to land these media placements has helped her Gabby reach an international audience.  And she has done it through being able to work through her own blocks and creating her own unique process to manifest media.

In Gabby’s third video, she tackles those fears and limiting beliefs head on.

In this video you will learn:

  • How to create a movement with your message
  • How to make publicity fun!
  • How to stand out in an overcrowded media landscape

This is What Blocks You From Success

Through the years, I’ve heard a lot of people share some their dreams and aspirations with me…

… I want to be a writer.
… I want to teach and host workshops.
… I want to have a blog like yours.
… I want to have my own podcast.
… I want to X kind of work so I can serve others.

But, more often than not, the statement is then followed up with something like…

… but I don’t have any money to do it.
… I can’t earn money doing that.
… I don’t know how to write a book.
… I don’t know how to start a blog.
… I struggle to write.
… I don’t know how to start teaching or speaking.
… maybe I’ll just “try it out” for a few months and if I’m not successful I’ll quit.
… and so on.

While some of these can be legitimate concerns (like figuring out how to set up a website so you can blog), as my mentor Marie Forleo says “everything is figureoutable”.

So, if you try, you can figure it out (trust me).  But what I’ve found is that, more often than that, what is really blocking us from fully boldly jumping in head first is our own self doubt.  It’s our own fear.

As a result of this fear, we start to create our own limiting beliefs and myths, like believing that we can never earn enough money doing the work we love or that, for some reason, we shouldn’t charge people for our work.  ‘Cause, you know, when you’re helping others it should always be free right? 😉

My mentor, friend, and New York Times best-selling author Gabrielle Bernstein, busts these kinds of myths in her new free training video! In this video, she teaches the 3 most common mistakes that block you from earning for your great work and how to fix them.

Much love to you,

P.S. There’s another awesome video coming in a few days, so be on the look out!

The Key to Stepping into Your True Purpose

Whether you’re fully aware of it right now or not, I know that you have a Divine purpose to serve this world in a big way.  That purpose is in perfect alignment with you and your gifts so that you can serve others to the best of your ability.

We all have our own purpose… and it is in perfect alignment with what our own unique gifts are.  They are all beautiful and magnificent in their own unique way.

However, if you’re anything like me, then you’ve experienced doubt.  Maybe you’ve felt the call to grab an idea and make it a reality but your mind has come in with thoughts like…

… I don’t have enough money to do this.

… I don’t have enough time to do this.

… I’m not capable of doing this.

… I don’t have enough education to do this.

nobody is going to like my work.

… I’ll just be judged and criticized for my work.

… I’ll be a failure.

… I’ll never be able to make money doing it.

… other people have done it already.

… other people are better than me.

… I’m not good enough.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you are good enough.  You’re not serving anyone by playing small and staying locked up in fear.

This is one of the many lessons I’ve learned through my friend, mentor, and New York Times Bestselling Author Gabrielle Bernstein.  Gabby has been a life coach and motivational speaker for over a decade and she is committed to guiding us through what blocks us from truly stepping into our life’s purpose.

For the next couple weeks, Gabby’s sharing 3 free videos that I thought would be extremely beneficial to you.  The material in these videos will help you clear the blocks to your confidence and give you the direction you need so that you can act right now.

There are a few common blocks that hold us back from truly and fully stepping into our true power and Gabby covers them in these 3 videos.

In this first video, she tackles the issue of confidence!  In this video, Gabby will teach you how to gain confidence so you can rise up, live in your true purpose and own your authentic voice.

She shares her own personal story of how she became a speaker, author and public figure with zero past experience or degree.  She also shares the 3 steps that helped her embrace her own power so she could step into her Divine purpose.

Through this video, you’ll be able to gain the confidence that you need to share your own transformational story in your own way so that you can truly serve others and the world.

Season 1 | Episode 002: Miracles as True Perception

Welcome to Episode 002 of the Your Miraculous Life Podcast!

In this second episode, I share a passage from Chapter 3 from the Course entitled, Miracles as True Perception.

Here are some of the main take-a-ways from this passage:

  • No one who has ever lived who has not experienced some light.
  • The miracle perceives everything as it truly is.
  • If you perceive truly (by having a true love-based mindset) you are canceling out misperceptions in yourself and in others simultaneously.  Because you are seeing others as they truly are, you are therefore accepting their truth so that they can accept their own truth for themselves as well.

Click to Tweet: When you see others with love, you are healing yourself and others simultaneously @jenilyn8705

For the next week, 2 weeks, month or a few months, set the intention for yourself to recognize how you are perceiving other’s darkness.  Are you catching yourself judging someone for something they said or did?  Are you criticizing them in someway?  Are you somehow making yourself “better” than them in some way?  This is just the ego — this is your darkness, and it leads little room for healing.

So once you recognize how you are focusing on the darkness of others with your own darkness (through judgement, criticism, etc.),  then give it up to spirit.  Ask the Divine, the Universe, your higher self, the Holy Spirit, your inner guide (however you want to call it) to help you see this differently and to help you see the light in them.

As a result, you will not only be healing your own perception, but they will then be more open to their own light as well.

Much love,
